They are produced when using <strong>varnishes, solvents, adhesives, paints, cleaning agents, fuels<\/strong> and plastics &#8211; and are widespread in production halls, workshops and laboratories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite their practical use, VOCs pose considerable <strong>health and explosion risks<\/strong>. Reliable <strong>VOC monitoring with suitable gas measurement technology<\/strong> is therefore essential for <strong>occupational safety, fire protection and legal compliance<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-health-risk-from-vocs-from-irritation-to-cancer-risk\">Health risk from VOCs &#8211; from irritation to cancer risk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even low concentrations of VOC vapors can lead to health problems. Chronic exposure can lead to <strong>nerve damage, organ damage (liver, kidneys)<\/strong> and even <strong>cancer<\/strong>. Particularly critical: many VOCs are <strong>odorless<\/strong> and are only noticed at a late stage.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Typical symptoms of VOC exposure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Headaches, tiredness, concentration problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Irritation of eyes, respiratory tract and skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Damage to the central nervous system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term impairment of the liver and kidneys<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suspected cancer (e.g. benzene, formaldehyde)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Occupational exposure limit values (OELs) &#8211; examples:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Benzene<\/strong>: 0.5 ppm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Toluene<\/strong>: 50 ppm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Xylene<\/strong>: 100 ppm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Danger from long-term exposure<\/em>: VOCs can accumulate unnoticed in poorly ventilated rooms &#8211; the damage to health is often gradual and irreversible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-explosion-hazard-due-to-vocs-flammable-amp-highly-risky\">Explosion hazard due to VOCs &#8211; flammable &amp; highly risky<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Many VOCs form <strong>flammable to explosive vapor-air mixtures<\/strong> with air even at low concentrations.
