Despite its industrial importance, it is one of the most hazardous substances: <strong>Vinyl chloride is carcinogenic, highly flammable and difficult to detect<\/strong> &#8211; so reliable gas monitoring is essential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-health-risk-from-vinyl-chloride-carcinogenic-and-toxic-to-the-liver\">Health risk from vinyl chloride &#8211; carcinogenic and toxic to the liver<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>VCM is absorbed via the respiratory tract and can trigger symptoms such as <strong>headaches, dizziness, irritation of the mucous membranes or unconsciousness<\/strong> even with short-term exposure. The long-term effect is particularly critical: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>According to IARC, vinyl chloride is classified as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main health risk: <strong>angiosarcoma of the liver<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition, <strong>liver and nerve damage<\/strong> can occur with chronic exposure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Toxicological limit values in Germany (TRGS 900):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>OEL (occupational exposure limit value): 1 ppm (2.6 mg\/m\u00b3)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Odor threshold is above the limit value<\/strong> \u2192 Danger is often detected too late<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk of <strong>unnoticed accumulation near the ground<\/strong> (VCM is heavier than air)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-medium\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-explosion-hazard-due-to-vinyl-chloride-high-fire-load-in-production\">Explosion hazard due to vinyl chloride &#8211; High fire load in production<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Vinyl chloride is <strong>highly flammable<\/strong> and forms <strong>explosive mixtures<\/strong> with air even at low concentrations.
