However, despite its industrial relevance, formaldehyde is a <strong>highly hazardous gas<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Toxic and irritant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflammable and explosis under certain conditions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carcinogenic according to CLP and REACH regulation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-formaldehyde-flammable-and-explosive-an-underestimated-danger\"><strong>Formaldehyde: Flammable and explosive &#8211; an underestimated danger<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Formaldehyde is usually a <strong>colorless gas with a pungent odor<\/strong> that can easily ignite at high temperatures or with poor ventilation. In the air, it forms an <strong>explosive mixture<\/strong> &#8211; with the following limit values: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lower explosion limit (LEL):<\/strong> approx. <strong>7 % by volume<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upper explosion limit (UEL):<\/strong> approx. <strong>73% by volume<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Although these values are relatively high, a critical state can quickly arise in <strong>production or storage rooms<\/strong> with <strong>large quantities of formaldehyde<\/strong> &#8211; especially if additional substances or high temperatures are added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-bl-block-spacer\"><div class=\"is-style-small\"><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dual-threat-toxicity-fire-hazard\">Dual threat: toxicity + fire hazard<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The real danger often comes from <strong>chronic or acute toxicity<\/strong>:<br>Formaldehyde can <strong>irritate the respiratory tract<\/strong> and cause <strong>damage to health<\/strong> from as little as <strong>0.1 ppm<\/strong>.
