Safely monitor biomethanol (CH₃OH)

with reliable gas warning technology from Bieler+Lang

What is biomethanol?

Biomethanol is a regeneratively produced alcohol, chemically identical to conventional methanol (CH₃OH), but obtained from biogenic raw materials – e.g. from:

  • Biogas
  • Wood waste
  • CO₂ from industrial processes
  • Electricity-based electrolysis (“green hydrogen”)

In combination with green hydrogen, biomethanol serves as a CO₂-neutral chemical storage medium, fuel or raw material for industry.

Why are gas detectors relevant for biomethanol?

is methanol:

  • Highly flammable (flash point: 11 °C)
  • Toxic even at low concentrations (MAK value: 200 ppm)
  • Invisible and odorless
  • Combined with hydrogen or other flammable gases in many applications

➡️ Even the smallest leaks in tanks, pipes or production facilities can lead to hazardous atmospheres or explosion risks.

Typical areas of application for gas detection technology for biomethanol

ApplicationRelevant hazardous substances
Methanol production from CO₂ + H₂Methanol, hydrogen
